Race Information

Gosport Road Runners invite you to take part in the 32nd Gosport Half Marathon.

The race takes place on Sunday 19th November 2017 commencing at 10am. The venue is Bay House School, 18 Gomer Lane, Alverstoke, Gosport, Hampshire PO12 2QP. There is chip timing.

The combined running number and chip will be collected on race day.

Race entries tend to be evenly split between Club and non-Club Runners, so there is a good mix of abilities that ensures the race feels busy but rarely crowded.

The race is a venue for the Hampshire Road Race League and unfortunately is not suitable for wheelchair athletes.

The course introduced in 2014 will be used again although there may be slight adjustments made.

The route starts and finishes at Browndown Rd, then has two laps which go all the way along the Seafront at Lee-on-the-Solent.

The outward leg is mainly run on cycle-paths and pavement, the return leg goes along the Esplanade. The course is flat save for two short ramps along the Esplanade.

A Course Map may be viewed here: Course Map

The 2016 Winning man was Jonathan Roberts (Southampton AC) in a time of 1:09:40, a new course record. The winning lady was Ellie Monks (Southampton AC) in a time of 1:21:36.

Entries for this year's race have reached 1700. The current trend suggests the race limit of 2000 will be reached before the end of October. Number transfers via the Fullonsport website will still be permitted after the race is full until 10:00 pm on Wed 15th Nov.

Gosport Road Runners would like to thank Solent Sports Injury Clinic of Lee-on-the-Solent for their support of our race.

An increase in fees levied by the M.O.D. means we are having to raise our charge for parking at Browndown to £2 per car this year. However this is still very good value compared to the Public Car Parks in the area.

Children's Fun Run

Whilst the main event is underway, a ‘Fun Run’ will take place. This is a non-competitive run for children of age 11 and under.

The Fun Run takes place commencing at 10.20am and covers an approximate distance of 1.2k.

The event is off road starting on a grassed area near to the seafront, through a park and finishing in the school grounds.

If your child wants you to run with them, that is ok. The entry cost is £2.00. Payment and registration for the Fun Run, has to be made on the day of the race.

The entry form can be downloaded here: Fun Run Entry Form

All finishers (adults and children) will receive a medal and Goody Bag. Why not personalise your medal? Visit our medal engraver in the Race HQ.

The wearing of any type of headphones is not permitted again this year.

In the event of severe weather or unforeseen circumstances beyond the control of the race organisers, we reserve the right to cancel the race. If this decision is made, no refund of race entry fee will be made, as most of the costs are incurred before the start of the race.

We really do appreciate runners giving a few minutes of their time after the race to send us their comments. It is invaluable information for the race committee. A good place to post a comment is on the Runner’s World website.

Guidance on how to prepare for an endurance event is available on the www.runnersmedicalresource.com website with regularly updated advice from the runbritain Medical Advisory Group.
