‘A Fast and Friendly Race’

Gosport Road Runners invite you to take part in the 33rd Gosport Half Marathon.

The race takes place on Sunday 18th November 2018 commencing at 10am. The venue is Bay House School, 18 Gomer Lane, Alverstoke, Gosport, Hampshire PO12 2QP. There is chip timing.

Race entries tend to be evenly split between Club and non-Club Runners, so there is a good mix of abilities that ensures the race feels busy but rarely crowded. The race is a venue for the Hampshire Road Race League and unfortunately is not suitable for wheelchair athletes.

Water Stations.

In recent years there has been considerable media focus on the proliferation of one-use plastic containers and their impact on the environment.

Four years ago, we introduced pouches as an alternative to bottles at our water stations. These of course are also plastic.

Paper cups on a possibly windy seafront in November pose too many problems! There are companies who are developing environment-friendly products which we hope will become available soon.

Gosport Road Runners are committed to finding non-plastic drink containers for future races, however for 2018 we will again be using pouches.

Age categories and Prizes

We have reviewed the age categories and prize structure for 2018.

We have added an M75+ category, prizes will be the same in all age categories.

Prizes this year will be awarded to the 1st and 2nd only in each age category but the value of these have been increased. We spend almost £2000 on prizes.

Grrrrreat Gosport Half Marathon Charity Presentation Night

Following the 2017 Gosport Half Marathon, Gosport Road Runners had the very joyful task of presenting £9,500 that last year’s half marathon raised to 18 local charities and good causes.  Dave Kitching, the Race Director for 2018, presided at the event that continued to build on the very strong connection between the Club, the Gosport Half Marathon and the local community. Gosport Road Runners is now very much looking forward to the 2018 event and yet another opportunity to raise substantial amounts of money for those in their local community.  The following charities and good causes were the lucky recipients: 3rd Gosport Sea Scouts, Marvels and Meltdowns, Harbour Cancer, Baycroft School, Rowan’s Hospice, Alverbridge Nursery, Meon Valley Explorers, Mayor of Gosport Charity, Simon Says, Oakley Waterman Caravan Foundation, Operation Help the Homeless, Swan Pre-School Rowner, Stokes Bay Junior Parkrun, 12th Gosport Scout Group, Alver Valley Parkrun, Autism Hampshire and Jasmine Hamp.

If you are interested in supporting this grrrrrreat Half Marathon please see details here.

Race entries are now open.

New for 2018 is a limited refund and deferral policy. Check the terms and conditions page for further details.

“As good as it gets… Some of the best and friendliest marshals I have ever encountered. Superb organisation without being officious. A goody bag that is environmentally friendly – and filled with things I actually wanted after a long run. Great medal.”

“Really great race, super organisation and support first time running this, and what a great race.”

“Marshals on the route were amazing, really enthusiastic and supportive. And the samba band were fantastic. Quite a high proportion of club runners, but didn’t feel competitive, and in fact lots of support from other runners too.”
